Olympic 10,000 meters champion Xing Huina will not defend her gold medal in Beijing due to a leg injury, according to this report from Reuters.

Xing is only 24 years old, and along with 110-meter hurdles world record holder Liu Xiang, was one of China's few hopes for track and field wins in the 2008 Beijing Olympics. She has been training in the United States with Chinese-born coach James Li. Her withdraw from her home Olympics begs the question of whether overtraining is an issue among Chinese athletes.
